Get Fit. Stay Fit.

I’ve written a few articles about how getting fit and staying fit is done just doing it, but I know that this is not always the easiest thing for people. I decided that I would continue to write motivational articles about how you, a normal person, can get fit without some complicated equation.

For the past 4 years, I have worked out routinely without fail, but that’s it. Sure, I have not eaten meat for a majority of it and I’ve tried to eat healthier, but I haven’t stuck to any diet or programs. There are times when I fall off the wagon a little bit. I only work out 2 days instead of 4, I eat way more cupcakes then a person my size should really eat, but that’s called living. I will never be your go-to person for someone who eats consistently clean because I refuse to do that and it’s not something that is reasonable for my lifestyle. I am the person that will stick to my work out routine and for me, that’s the only thing that’s worked.

Food is something that is so ingrained into our culture. Any social gather or vacation revolves around food and it’s the main ingredient to what brings us joy. Sure, we need to have a healthy relationship with food and not succumb to our every desire, but the food that you love and crave is not going anywhere. My theory is; instead of trying to trick food and your cravings into doing what you want it to do, love it in moderations and just kick some major ass at the gym.

I see so many people on social media posting what they think is a workout, or what they think will eventually help them get fit. But no, unless you are really moving and you know that you’re going to be sore in the morning, you are not going to burn enough calories. Like no Judy, doing the side step and moving your arms up and down is not going to give you the beach body you want. You need to be doing some cardio and heavy lighting. I know that there are people at very different ability levels and doing something is better than nothing, but in the long run, you are going to need to step it up or you are going to plateau. Working out should not be torture, but it needs to be WORK. If it was SO easy that it didn’t seem like a workout, it probably wasn’t. Even though every time I work out I am completely dead, there is so much satisfaction and joy that keeps me coming back, and nothing is better than seeing those fast results.

As I end this article, I just want to remind everything that I do not have everything in the fitness world figured out. I am not a personal trainer, I am an elementary school teacher who only has so much time on her hands. I hope this article helps you realize fitness needs to be a lifestyle and not a quick fix. I hope you find yourself in a healthy relationship with your body and your health and I hope you never get tricked into joining a pyramid scheme xoxo.
